General Knowledge about cleaning and pressing comics

Q: What can cleaning and pressing do for my comics?

A: Dry cleaning can remove general dirt and grime from the front and back covers as well as some interior pages. In most cases pencil can be easily removed and ink can be removed in some instances as well. This will improve the overall quality and value of your book. No chemicals or solvents are ever used on your books. Dry cleaning will not remove foxing, water stains, sun damage or tanning. Pressing uses heat and pressure to smooth out dents, dings and wrinkles on your books. Spine rolls can also be corrected. What a press cannot fix - Color breaking spine ticks, color breaking creases or wrinkles, tears, spine splits, rusted staples or rust stains. A press on a good candidate can raise the value and grade significantly. (I have seen grade jumps from .5 to 2.5 points, this can mean an increase in value of thousands of dollars in some cases)

Q: Do grading companies (CGC, CBCS) consider dry cleaning or pressing to be restoration?

A: No they do not.
